Freddy Tjallingii - EPG Systems
After my retirement I started up EPG Systems as a result of my passion to research plant-insect interactions at the University of Wageningen. Primarily to keep a close eye on the research, but also to meet the demand for EPG-equipment of researchers from all over the world, as I was used to do at the university for quite a long time. In 2009 I requested Cimar Electronics to take over production, which has grown into a pleasant cooperation. The EPG-equipment (electrical penetration-graph) comprises an electrical measuring circuit of which a plant and an insect (with stinging mouth parts) have become part. The signals this equipment registers are rather complicated and require expert knowledge.
The equipment is used in labs of universities, public bodies and companies for an investigation into crop protection and fundamental, biological issues which are related to it. The stinging insects are an economic problem as they are effective carriers of viruses and other plant diseases, which results into a significant loss of harvest (grains, beet, corn etc.) Results of such research allow us to unravel contagious virus mechanisms and the effect of resistance mechanisms against these kinds of insects and active substances to fight them.
In the past an electrical engineer of the University of Wageningen developed the equipment. When he retired as well, I was looking for a reliable partner. Cimar Electronics had designed specific cables for me once. It was quite a logical step for me to approach them to take over production. A main advantage: the margin of error has been reduced by not assembling everything manually. Cimar Electronics is willing to think along and is flexible if things suddenly have to be adapted. As a client you should always be aware of your needs and the desired final result, in order to ensure a well-monitored planning. Of course the client has most knowledge and you can’t expect your partner to have product-specific knowledge. Cimar Electronics handles things perfectly and communicates well. I would definitely cooperate with them again in the future. Another advantage: they are physically located nearby!
