Tom Wagemans - NovaBike
In university year 2013-2014 I joined the student project NovaBike racing team Delft, initially as treasurer, finally as team manager as well. During the Open Days of the TU Delft I met the NovaBike-team and was immediately impressed and enthusiastic, because of my passion for technique. I wanted to contribute my mite to making the motor as fast and light as possible. Main sponsor of this project is the TU Delft. Each year new team members join this project to bring it to a higher level. At this moment the motorcycle has a normal combustion engine suitable for running on bio-ethanol. The team is working on a fully electrically powered racing motorcycle. The motor we developed participated in the European Supermono Championship during the past couple of years. The students of our team are responsible for organizational and engineering aspects, during races the motor is driven by (semi-) professional motorcyclists. The last few years it has been Ricardo van Duijn, reaching the podium several times! Goal of the NovaBike-project is to educate students to become innovative engineers of the future. Besides, we want to prove that an environmental-friendly race is just as exciting as a traditional one.
Our team has been cooperating with Cimar Electronics for one year now. Our Chief Electronics had to design a data logger. We wanted to collect more data with regard to our motor’s performance such as: speed, lean-angle, injection times etc. In my role as treasurer I started looking for a company which could assist in producing a PCB and wanted to take time to assist one of our students in designing the PCB as well. Through Google I ended up with Cimar Electronics. In one of my first phone calls I talked to project manager Johan van Dijk, who immediately reacted positively. Cimar Electronics hasn’t only produced PCBs for us, they have advised us on design as well. We have tested the data logger, the prototype functions properly. It allows us to read out 30 sensors, in less than no time!
Our student racing team depends on good partners. We found a good one in Veenendaal. Cimar Electronics is extremely professional. The company is characterized by a smooth communication. A part of our project team assisted Cimar Electronics during their 25th anniversary, by giving live demonstrations. It was a wonderful day!
